Quick Thought On Boxing and MMA

When I grew up Heavyweight boxing was the probably the biggest happening every few months. I grew up in the Mike Tyson Era. There were greats like Holyfield and Bowe that fought during these times too.

Nowadays I things sure have changed. Not only do you have to question whether or not Heavyweight boxing is even worth buying a PPV for, but the fact that it doesn't even compare to the quality of Heavyweight MMA fighting.

I follow boxing and I can really only name two relevant pro boxers. I'll give you one hint they're Russian.

That being said in MMA there are a slew of top talents at the heavyweight level; Lesnar, Fedor, Mir, Velaquez, Carwin, Big Foot, Big Country and Werdum just to name a few. Did anyone think the shift in popularity would swing this much when MMA first came out.

I wouldn't have thought so, but I'm also not saying that I think MMA is more relevant than boxing just yet. The two biggest PPV's of the year have been boxing PPV's. MMA has come close, but there's just something about boxing.

I'll address why I think MMA has been mismanaged a bit and how it's effecting the growth of the sports next time.

Until Then.
